Job title: Lead Climber and Technical Writer for Reecoil
Company: Waitakere Tree Services
Location: Auckland, New Zealand
How long have you been in the industry? I began my training and part time tree work at age 16 (11 years ago) and have been working full time in Arboriculture since I finished my degree (6 years).
What does your typical work day involve? Running & training a small team of arborists on tree removal and pruning works across West Auckland. Dismantles, reductions, big felling and hi-ab takedowns are a regular occurrence. The occasional crane job and even more occasional helicopter work keeps me on my toes!
What's the biggest challenge of your job? Getting the balance right between commercial productivity and spending time training up new staff.
What’s your proudest work accomplishment so far? Removing 25 poplar trees in one week on my first ever crane job. I felt experienced by the end of it!
What's one piece of advice you'd give to someone wanting to start in your industry? Smooth is fast and speed follows technique.
