We are adventurers at heart
Whether it's adventuring during the week - working in locations few humans will ever get to experience. Or adventuring on the weekend - hiking, snorkelling, mountain biking...
It's the reason we are headquartered in one of the most beautiful locations in Australia. A stones throw from tropical rainforests, spectacular waterfalls, world class mountain biking trails, and just a 30 minute boat ride out to the Great Barrier Reef.
It's the environment we love and will work to protect for our children, grandchildren, and beyond.
Our Commitments
- To increasingly build our products with recycled materials
- Pledge 1% of our revenue to environmental charities
- Headquarters powered by solar
- Build products to be long-lasting and offer in-house repairs
- All products are free from PFC/PFAS's (forever chemicals)
OUR 3 STAGE APPROACH TO SUSTAINABILITY:
- Build the best gear, so people buy once and it lasts a lifetime
- Offset the impacts of our work buy utilising clean energy and funding offset projects such as old growth forest preservation
- Pledge 1% of our sales to direct action organisations, that actively fight to retain the planets' old growth forests (natural carbon sequestration)
Product Design
For us, sustainability starts at the very beginning with the products we create.
Developing products for tough industries that put their gear through hard use on a daily basis, means that we develop every product with durability at it's core. And because every product starts life in our design lab, we create with repairability in mind. To extend the life of our non safety related products.
Working alongside you - We love nothing better than to see a piece of Reecoil gear that has been put to work by a customer and tells the story of what you have been through and achieved with it.
Recycled Materials
We pride ourselves on using the toughest materials to withstand industrial use, including 1000D Kodra, Cordura and Rip Stop fabrics. Utilising these materials to build longevity into our products.
Looking to the future, we have implemented our Recycled Material Commitment. Where we will be increasing and converting over to Bluesign approved pre and post consumer recycled materials (in non PPE products). While still ensuring we never compromise on product durability and lifespan.
In house repair
As industrial and adventure product enthusiasts we have an unrivalled knowledge of the repair process for our gear.
As "on the tools" industry professionals ourselves, we know that when people really use their gear, you build an attachment to it. Memories of crazy work and adventures are now a part of the very fabric...
Our goal is to keep your equipment functioning and out of landfill. To keep your Reecoil equipment and those memories with you for years if not decades to come.
Climate
Being headquartered in the tropics of Australia, on the coast of the Great Barrier Reef means that we see first hand the impacts of climate change.
We are headquartered in a region of tremendous natural beauty but it is also subjected to cyclones and bush fires on an annual basis. Plus the mass coral bleaching of the Great Barrier Reef just off our coastline means that we see first hand the impacts of climate change, and ultimately will be amongst the first in Australia (if not the world) to feel the effects.
It is for this reason that we take sustainability from a climate perspective very seriously. Knowing that consumption is the main driver for climate change, people minimising their volume of consumption is the biggest lever humanity can pull.
This is why we take a three stage approach:
- Build the best gear, so people buy once and it lasts a lifetime
- Offset the impacts of our work buy utilising clean energy and funding offset projects such as old growth forest preservation
- Pledge 1% of our sales to direct action organisations, that actively fight to retain the planets natural carbon sequestration (forests)
Giving Back
Our founder Dan has spent a long time volunteering to measure, document, and preserve old growth trees and forests (starting in 2012). Measuring trees in logging coups due to be clear-felled, in an effort to register the "significant" trees and place a TPZ (tree protection zone) around them.
It is for that reason we feel planting trees is good... but it is far better to protect old growth forests that are set to be logged. Forests that are already sequestering carbon and have built the ecosystem to expand their carbon capture if left alone.
Our giving back focuses on our pledge to give 1% of our sales to direct action organisations, that actively fight to retain the planets natural carbon sequestration (forests).
These ecosystems have evolved to encompass everything from the fungi living in the soil, to the forest understory (containing small plants and shrubs) the towering trees that humans see (and count), the mosses, lichen and other epiphyte plants that live in the forest canopy, to the animal life that is an inseparable part of the whole.
This is why we choose to support organisations such as:
- www.searrp.org - protecting, carrying out, and facilitating research in the Borneo rainforest
- www.thetreeprojects.com - protecting, carrying out, and facilitating research in the Tasmanian forests
